Walker Evans: Polaroids.
Scalo Publishers, New York, 2001. 186 pp., 265 color illustrations, 8x10”.
In 1973, Polaroid gave Walker Evans an innovative new product, the SX-70 camera and gave him an unlimited film. Between 1973 and 1975 (when Evans died) he produced approximately 2500 Polaroids, 300 of which were selected for this book, almost all of them were unpublished until the realise of this book in 2001. As a fan of Polaroid film the obvious charm of it is the immediacy, so it is lovely to see the train of thought Evans had and I believe this is how Polaroid should be used: instantly and at anything that takes your fancy. As digital is taking over our lives it can be harder (I believe) to find that special something in the norm.
A personal and beautiful book worth sourcing out, I got mine through Amazon marketplace.
